    Beaver coming in game ideas

Hi, I help run a group with 30 beavers (26 boys 4 girls). I'm looking for game ideas where beavers can join as they arrive and is adaptable for 30. We have a fair sized church hall and a very lively lot of beavers ! Any ideas greatly appreciated !

We do a game with a skittle and a beanbag where they have to knock it over.

There's an identical thread to this started by Guardabee.

We used Duck Goose. - there's no winner and lots of 'goes'. As people arrive they can join in. Its also nice and silly and involves a controlled amount of running round.

At beavers we generally hack Hockey set up for them as they come in they can then join a team.

Another popular one we do regularly is dodgeball as they come in.

Another one is pixie vs elves where you shout pixie (however many steps) or elves (how many steps) until you say to one of them 'attack' and the attacking team has to grab someone from the other team and the caughtee becomes part of the other team etc.

Yes why is Dodgeball not allowed - I've never heard about this before it's a shame as it's the beavers favourite game they're asking every week if we can play it.

We do it differently in Beavers to Scouts as in beavers we use one of those really soft foam balls then by Scout age its a small tough rubber ball...

I've never heard it not being allowed, it sounds like a local rule.

There are no banned games in scouting. None

Plan game. Assess risk. Make sure game is safe.

    Play game.

Maybe do it differentl next time?

    Keith was talking rubbish.

I did not say that dodge ball is banned.

If I was 100% sure it was, I would have said 'dodgeball is banned', but I didnt, cos im not 100% sure if it is or not.

Dodgeball is not banned. Nor is Bulldog, for that matter, though the more physical versions of it might not get past a sensible risk assessment.

Unless you have silly local rules, of course.

    HI Kestrel

Welcome to the group - great idea asking for Beaver specific games in the Beaver section as we dont all have a box of lego to play with and our coming ingames are different from theirs - cause we are younger... and didn;t learn them in a previous section.

    We do
    1. Head and Catch - stand on circle, scout/young leader in the middle throws ball in turn to each beaver and they have to do the opposite - he says catch and they head it!
    2. Under the blanket - Beavers run round, when the whistle blows they all curl up and hide faces, scout covers one up and we have to guess who it is hiding... this is great fun as who isnt here, might not have arrived yet.. or may have just arrived and no one spotted that one!
    3. Skipping ropes just have a go
    4. Catch - again, just have a go...
    5. What's the time Mr Wolf - old favourite!
    6. Time Bomb - throw ball round circle if they drop it, count down from 10... at zero the ball explodes and that Beaver misses a go

We tend not to do many more... as that way they learn a few and the first couple of Beavers in can choose the game...
